Refine Technology was founded in 1999 with a vision to bring to the biopharmaceutical market cell separation systems that allow for increased productivity of cell derived biopharmaceuticals. Refine soon introduced its patented ATF™ System which is now being used in the development and manufacturing facilities of many biological and pharmaceutical companies.
Refine Technology has recently generated huge interest with the publication of record titers in a CHO Concentrated Fed-Batch process. This is an exciting new platform technology which permits great increases in cell and product concentrations as compared to Fed Batch. Challenges in the biomanufacturing industry (such as competitive products for the same indication or desired COG reductions) are forcing exploration of new approaches: a change to Concentrated Fed-Batch can be implemented quickly and simply.
The explosion in vaccine development has also pushed the ATF system to the fore. A suspension cell process can benefit from a rapid ATF-seedexpansion train, CFB and a fast ATF-mediaexchange, while a microcarrier process benefits from rapid low shear media exchanges and cell-microcarrier separations.
